PRT-1000, and the two joint indications it was built for.
Development programmes
From pre-clinical research to a clinical programme
The Company is embarking upon clinical research to demonstrate that the MB protein fusion technology offers improved safety and efficacy of therapies through extended retention and cargo activity in the target tissue, to address articular joint pain disease states.
The initial development programme focuses on local, targeted delivery of anti-inflammatory IL1RA for the pain associated with osteoarthritis and acute gout.

PRT-1000
Matrix-Binding Interleukin 1 Receptor Antagonist (MB-IL1RA), the first development programme, aimed at the pain of acute gout and osteoarthritis of the knee.
Pre-clinical, then clinical
The Company has completed pre-clinical research with the MB-IL1RA therapy that has demonstrated promising results, and is working on the development of a human clinical research program.
Beyond the joint
The ultimate goal of the internal development programme is to address new clinical needs with IL1RA beyond its limited systemic uses in rheumatoid arthritis, including treatment of musculoskeletal diseases as well as diabetic and wound healing disease states.
Market opportunity
Two large, growing indications
Osteoarthritis and sports injury
It is estimated that there are roughly 16 million people in the United States alone being treated for OA knee pain, with aging demographics a factor in what to expect to be steady growth in incidence over the next 10-15 years. It is estimated that the OA knee injection therapy market will be close to $2.7B in 2017. In 2017 it is projected there will be over 4.7 million steroid injections and HA injections to treat OA knee pain patients.
Acute gout pain
Gout is a large and growing market with total gout drug sales projected to double to more than $2 Billion by 2018 in the US and Europe.
